Today was scheduled as a rest day, and I’m glad. Jet lag hit much harder than I expected. Mesfin came to the hotel around 11:30am and we spent some good time together. He is a diligent worker in the kingdom and one of the key men in this work. Mesfin is an excellent communicator and translator. His passion in sharing the gospel is evident and encouraging. His father, Markos, is also a preacher who sowed the seeds for the work we now do in the countryside. In fact, many of the gospel preachers we meet were taught and baptized by Markos. Mesfin works with a local church in Addis called the Sefara church.
After about an hour, we walked down the street to a café where we met Zerihun. He is another key man in this work. Zerihun works with the Kotebe church in Addis, but coordinates much of the work we do in the countryside. He is a man of integrity and humility. There is much that could be said for Zerihun, but his influence on the church here is exceptional.
During lunch we discussed our plans for countryside work. The original plan was to leave tomorrow (January 4) for Hosanna. But we pushed that back until Thursday, January 5 so Ryan can join us. Tomorrow we will purchase bibles and other supplies for our trip to the countryside.
After our meeting, Zerihun walked me back to the hotel. Both he and Mesfin were concerned that I would be alone for most of the evening, but I assured them I would be fine. I was looking forward to getting to bed early to sleep off my jet lag.
